Education
Many times, teachers and parents forget who should benefit from real education. A teacher may get so involved in lesson plans, activities and curriculum they may not remember it all should revolve around the students they are trying to teach. A child-centered education puts the child in the center of the learning, and makes him or her an active part in the learning cycle.
Education is a discipline that must be learned from the very beginning of the learning process. Education begins with a discipline of the mind and body. This means before a child can truly learn, he or she must be made aware that there are certain habits that need to be formed in the mind, where the learning takes place. An example of this would be the reason a teacher must include daily drills in areas such as math and phonics.
These rote drills are not for the teachers benefit, but for the student to learn and remember his math facts. They come easily and quickly to the mind when called upon and needed. The same is true for phonics. Learning the sounds of the letters and the combination of sounds will allow the student to automatically learn a new sound and eventually remember the words on the written page.
A child-centered education involves a large and generous curriculum because the mind learns and grows on ideas. A child is capable of gathering more information than adults seem to realize. Why bring down knowledge to the child when the child learns more, and absorbs more, when you bring to the child up to the knowledge? Let him or her gather the information and watch how much more is gleaned.
A child-centered education revolves around a child. Teachers and parents can give their children a generous education filled with knowledge, whetting their appetite and inspiring them to greater heights.
